Future Pathways
School based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs)
There have been quite a number of sign-ups taking place as the new term starts. Three students have secured retail traineeships with Domino’s Pizza and two students are due to commence hospitality traineeships with the Fat Frenchman café. During the holidays year eleven student Jakeb was signed up to an engineering traineeship with Bell Stainless at Kunda Park.
Congratulations to all students on the applications, interviews and successful work experience trials.
School based traineeships and apprentices are a great opportunity which allow you to combine training with paid work in a real job; gain QCE points and continue full time school studies.
Two students have successfully completed their retail traineeships –
Congratulations to Seth and Jaydan who have been able to balance paid work hours and a certificate III qualification with their school commitments.
New SAT opportunities for senior students are advertised via school notices, on year level parades and on the noticeboards.
Metro North Hospital & Health traineeships
Year ten students interested in a health pathway and applying for 2020/2021 traineeships with Metro North are invited to register their interest in an information session as soon as possible. The session will run on Monday, May 13, 2019, 8:50am in the library and will be conducted by Kylie Boccuzzi from Youth Engagement. Traineeships on offer at Caboolture (and Redcliffe) hospital include nursing, business administration, aged care, allied health assistance and dental assisting. See Mrs Forrest to register your name by Friday, May 10, 2019.
New clarification of paid work hours for school based traineeships
As from February 11, 2019 the department has confirmed that a trainee must have completed a minimum of three hundred and seventy-five hours (fifty days) of paid employment for each twelve months of the full-time equivalent nominal term before the traineeship can be completed. This means that a two year nominal term traineeship such as Certificate III Hospitality now requires one hundred days or seven hundred and fifty hours of paid work before it can be deemed eligible for completion. The implications of this are that a student who commences a traineeship at the beginning of year twelve would need to complete the qualification and one hundred days of paid work before graduation. This clarification only applies to traineeships.
CERTIFICATE COURSES
Dual Cert II Salon assistant & Cert II Retail Cosmetics
Dual course trainees will be commencing their placement with host salon Beerwah Hair and Beauty. Beerwah High thanks Vicky and her team for providing our trainees with the opportunity to practice their basin and chair skills in a real working environment. While on placement these trainees will be representing our school and the training organisation delivering the course. As this program is considered an adult learning environment, the expectations are high in relation to personal presentation, attendance, participation and team work. I’m sure all trainees will enjoy a successful placement.
WHITE CARD INDUCTION DAY
The White Card induction day held on April 4 saw nineteen students successfully obtain their White Card. Students were instructed by Senior Construction teacher, Mr Josh Bell in the unit of competency CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Building & Construction Industry. Places for the day filled quickly as students recognised the importance of this training in allowing them to access construction work sites and seek opportunities for work experience in trade industries.
TAFE Qld Year 10 Trade Taster Program
Five Beerwah High students successfully secured a highly sought after place in the Trade Taster Program. These students will attend TAFE Nambour every Tuesday during term two and will have the opportunity to sample up to three different trades as well as have the opportunity to complete their White Card. This program may run again in term three and year ten students are encouraged to watch for this opportunity.
