Rules for personal mobility scooters
Persons using a motorised scooter must comply with the rules for personal mobility devices and the general road rules as set by the Qld Government. Please see below link for the current Qld Government Road rules information.
Parents and students should note that to ride a motorised scooter, you must be either:
- at least 16 years
or - at least 12 years and supervised by an adult while riding the device.
Children under 12 years of age must not ride personal mobility devices.
Unfortunately, there have been repeated incidents of students riding motorised scooters fast and unsafe, riders not wearing helmets and multiple riders on scooters. The risk of injury is high and we have also received multiple complaints from local business and members of the community. We have had an incident, where a young person, on a motorised scooter collided with a car in the car park.
Thankfully the student wasn’t injured, however damage was sustained to the vehicle.
As a result of these incidents, and in furtherance of the road rules, no motorised scooters are allowed on school property at any time. Consequences will apply if this is prohibition is breached (school discipline and reporting to police). I ask for your cooperation to ensure compliance and the safety of our students and members of the community.
