Deputy Principal's message

Leadership opportunities

This month we had five aspiring leaders participate in the Sunshine Coast Council Innovative Leadership Workshop at the brand-new Sunshine Coast City Hill venue. Workshops on entrepreneurship, leadership, self development were conducted by Lachie Smart, the youngest Australian to fly solo around the world, the Telstra Human Relations and Innovations Manager and Mayor Natoli conducting a Q&A session.  This was a fantastic opportunity to meet other students in the region who have creative, innovative ideas and be sparked by industry professionals into aspiring to and achieving their goals.

We will be facilitating our Leadership Development Program with out aspiring year 11 students early next term. This is a five week program that explores the key skills of leadership through; courage, commitment, collaboration, inclusive communication, active teamwork, act with integrity, seek to influence and inspire others and contribute positively to our school culture.  We look forward to working with our next cohort of exceptional young people.

Positive Behaviour for Learning – Focus Classroom Organisation

We implement a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework which is a whole school evidence-based approach to behaviour support. PBL takes an instructional approach to behaviour, recognising that schools need to teach the behaviours needed for success at school and beyond. We have been explicitly teaching the component of Classroom Organisation this term focusing on: classroom setup, materials, seating plan, entering and exiting the classroom, asking for help, transitioning to another activity and getting attention.  We recognise that demonstrating correct behaviours sometimes need revisiting and this has resulted in a reduction of our behaviour referrals for our year 8 students. A great outcome for our students, their learning and our teachers.
