Over the past month at Beerwah State High School, we have provided many opportunities for students to prepare them for the future, showcase their amazing talents, and celebrate their achievements. These moments remind us not only of the talent and commitment of our young people, but also of the importance of the staff, parents, and community members who walk alongside them in their journey.
For our future Year 7 students, the transition to high school has already begun. This month we have held three group enrolment interviews with families of students who will be joining Beerwah SHS in 2026. These meetings are an invaluable opportunity to welcome our future students, to understand how high school works, and to help them feel confident about the journey ahead. Our STEP Days have also been a highlight, providing our feeder primary school students with a hands-on taste of high school life. From engaging classroom experiences to memorable moments like the exploding watermelon in Science, these days help ease the transition by showing students that high school is not only about learning but also about fun, connection, and opportunity.
Our Year 10 students have also been in the spotlight this term as they prepare for their transition into senior schooling. They have participated in a senior school information session, a parent information evening, and subject selection talks delivered by our Heads of Department. These events gave students and families the chance to explore subject options and to consider how their strengths, interests, and aspirations align with different pathways. This process culminated in the SET Plan Interviews, where students mapped out their personalised pathways for Years 11 and 12. These conversations are a crucial part of preparing for senior school, and I want to commend our Year 10s for the maturity and focus they brought to this process, as well as thank our staff for their time, expertise, and support.
Alongside these important transitions, we have also taken time to celebrate the incredible successes of our students. Our Academic Champions Breakfast was a wonderful occasion to recognise 49 students from Years 7–10 and 8 students from Years 11–12 for their Semester 1 achievements. This event not only acknowledged the dedication and persistence required to achieve outstanding results but also served as an inspiration to others about what is possible with consistent effort. A special thank you goes to our Hospitality staff and students for preparing such a delicious breakfast that made the occasion even more memorable.
We have also celebrated success in The Arts, with our Dance Troupes excelling at the Pinnacle Dance Challenge and the Sunshine Coast Dance X competition, and our Drama Troupe impressing audiences at the Queensland Theatre’s Scene Project. Arts Week further showcased the creative talents of our students, filling our school with energy and colour through lunchtime activities, performances, and displays. These achievements highlight the wide range of opportunities available for our students to shine, both inside and outside the classroom.
Looking ahead, we are excited to host our Academic & Cultural Cup celebration on Monday 8th September. This event recognises students who actively participate in the rich array of opportunities our school has to offer — from academic pursuits and cultural activities to sport and leadership. The Academic & Cultural Cup highlights that success is not only measured by grades, but also by the willingness to get involved, take risks, and contribute to our school community. It will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the many ways our students embrace school life and grow through participation.
As we move into the second half of the term, I encourage all students to continue striving for their best – whether that is in the classroom, on the stage, in the sporting arena, or within the community. Success comes in many forms, but at its heart it is about effort, resilience, and a willingness to grow. Thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and the wider Beerwah community for the role you play in helping our young people thrive.
Together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to achieve, contribute, and shine.
Kind Regards,
Scott Siddell
Acting Principal
Transition to High School Study
Starting high school can be exciting and challenging. We are conducting a study asking year 7 students at Beerwah State High School whether they enjoyed starting high school or not. We would also like to find out how your parent/caregiver can support you during the transition to high school. The aim of the study is to identify things that make the transition easier and things that may make you more at risk of having troubles transitioning. Watch this video for your time you will receive a $20 gift voucher! More information can be found on the PDF file below.

Celebrating ARTS week – a look back on week 4
Last week we celebrated Arts Week, a chance to showcase creativity and come together as a school community. Students enjoyed a variety of inspiring events, including a short film creation, a lively Come Dance session with BDC, sing-along with our vocal group, Open stage band rehearsal and a Digital artwork workshop. It was a wonderful reminder of the power of the arts to bring us together, spark imagination, and celebrate talent across our school.
Congratulations to Dakota Burge for taking out the student vote for her art piece whilst the teacher vote could not be separated - congratulations to Tori Bryett and Joakim Markowski for their wonderful contribution and being selected. Matilda Chapman who’s 1 minute film impressed the judges also took out a prize. Well done to all students who participated!
Instrumental Workshop Tour
Students in the Concert Band have had a busy couple of weeks! Students travelled to Maleny State High School to rehearse as a combined Concert Band and learn a variety of repertoire – including music from Moana, How to Train your Dragon, pop tunes and more. They then took those pieces on tour to 3 of our local Primary Schools. Students at Beerwah, Landsborough and Maleny State Schools thoroughly enjoyed watching live music and learning about all the different instruments in their own Instrumental Music Programs.
In the middle of preparing for our tour, the Instrumental Music Brass students were treated to a workshop with regional brass specialist Dr Heather Aitken. The students enjoyed a morning of brass ensemble music mixed with specialised lessons on technique, equipment and more. Thank you to Dr Heather Aitken for an inspiring morning of music!

Head of Department Update – Digital Technologies & Humanities
It has been a busy first half of Term 3 across Digital Technologies and Humanities classrooms. Our Year 7s have been engaging with the Game of Life as part of Economics and Business; while our Year 8 students are stepping back in time and writing diary entries in their Medieval Europe unit as well as using Minecraft Education to construct castles.

Year 9s are focussed on either History or Geography with our Economics and Business Elective in full swing as well.
For Year 10 students, they have recently made subject choices for Year 11 as part of SETPLAN processes. Please ensure that your students are on track for success so that they are able to enter Year 11 in their chosen subjects and pathway.
Our Year 12s across Legal Studies are turning focus towards preparing for their External Exam or ensuring that VET competencies are completed for QCE attainment.
Check out these photos from our Year 12 Certificate III in Business class. Students turned their baking skills into a thriving venture—selling homemade cookies as part of their project. After their first round of trading, they had already made a profit!
A huge congratulations to these young entrepreneurs for combining creativity, teamwork and business savvy to make their idea rise to the top!
